OLTAS Challan Status Enquiry Procedure for Taxpayers

Income tax department initiative known as OLTAS maintains a record of paid taxes. The data is uploaded online through banks. Find below the two different procedure to check income tax challan status.  Use the options given under the “For taxpayers” section.

CIN Based View

  1. Visit the OLTAS page at
  2. Select CIN based view.
  3. Enter the BSR code of the bank through which you have paid TAX. Also, enter the serial number of the challan. Enter the challan date as well.
  4. Click on the view button after entering the security code.
  5. You will see the confirmation of your payment.
  6. If you have entered the amount, the confirmation screen will also show the amount.

TAN Based View

This procedure is useful when you are not having your challan no. with you. You can verify status of challan by using your TAN number.

  1. Use the same link given for the OLTAS.
  2. Select TAN based view before proceeding.
  3. Type the TAN number and select duration for which you want to verify.
  4. Repeat the captcha code as shown and click on the ‘view’ tab.

The OLTAS system facilitates taxpayers as well the collecting banks. Collecting banks can also check income tax and TDS challan status.

Challan Status Enquiry for the Collecting Banks

Likewise the taxpayers, the collecting banks can also carry out challan verification process.

Banks should click on the Collecting Bank Branch or Nodal Branch under the “For Banks” option.

For Collecting Bank Branches

The tax collecting banks can view following details which will verify the challan status. Banks have to provide branch scroll date with major head code.

  • Challan serial number
  • Challan date
  • PAN/TAN number
  • Name of the taxpayer
  • Amount of the tax paid

For Nodal Bank Branch

The nodal bank branches should provide the nodal scroll date with the major head code description. Following details will be shown up on the screen.

  • Scroll date

  • Major head code – description
